Panspermia in a Milky Way–like Galaxy

چکیده

We study the process of panspermia in Milky Way–like galaxies by modeling probability successful travel organic compounds between stars harboring potentially habitable planets. To this end, we apply modified habitability recipe Gobat & Hong to a model galaxy from McMaster Unbiased Galaxy Simulations suite zoom-in cosmological simulations. find that, unlike habitability, which only occupies narrow dynamic range over entire galaxy, can vary orders magnitude inner (R, b = 1–4 kpc) and outer disk. However, small fraction star particles have very large values for and, consequently, where is more effective than prebiotic evolution much lower naïve expectations based on ratio natural habitability.

Black holes in the milky way galaxy.

Extremely strong observational evidence has recently been found for the presence of black holes orbiting a few relatively normal stars in our Milky Way Galaxy and also at the centers of some galaxies. The former generally have masses of 4-16 times the mass of the sun, whereas the latter are "supermassive black holes" with millions to billions of solar masses. The evidence for a supermassive bla...

Galaxy Formation: Clues from the Milky Way

Stellar Populations are the fossil record of Galactic evolution. Interpretation of this record in the Local Group allows one to determine reliably the dominant physics controlling the evolution of those galaxies which are typical of the luminosity in the Universe, and is an essential prerequisite to understanding necessarily limited data at high redshifts. In our Galaxy, the key issues are the ...

Chemodynamical Simulations of the Milky Way Galaxy

We present chemodynamical simulations of a Milky Way-type galaxy using a selfconsistent hydrodynamical code that includes supernova feedback and chemical enrichment, and predict the spatial distribution of elements from Oxygen to Zinc. In the simulated galaxy, the kinematical and chemical properties of the bulge, disk, and halo are consistent with the observations. The bulge formed from the ass...

A model of habitability within the Milky Way galaxy.

We present a model of the galactic habitable zone (GHZ), described in terms of the spatial and temporal dimensions of the Galaxy that may favor the development of complex life. The Milky Way galaxy was modeled using a computational approach by populating stars and their planetary systems on an individual basis by employing Monte Carlo methods. We began with well-established properties of the di...

The Milky Way Galaxy as a Strong Gravitational Lens

We study the gravitational lensing effects of spiral galaxies by taking a model of the Milky Way and computing its lensing properties. The model is composed of a spherical Hernquist bulge, a Miyamoto-Nagai disc and an isothermal halo. As a strong lens, a spiral galaxy like the Milky Way can give rise to four different imaging geometries. They are (i) three images on one side of the galaxy centr...
